General FAQs

A headache is a symptom. It means pain anywhere in the head. A migraine is a specific, neurological condition that causes headaches along with symptoms like nausea, and sensitivity to light and/or sound. It often runs a predictable pattern from one attack to the next. Getting the right diagnosis matters, because treatment for a migraine is different from treatment for symptoms like tension or stress headaches.

It depends on the treatment and the diagnosis. Nerve blocks and trigger point injections can bring relief within days. Botox therapy typically builds over the first one to two treatment cycles, roughly 6 months. At times, it may take up to three treatment cycles for Botox to take full effect. Dr. Zatt will walk you through a realistic timeline for your specific treatment plan.

Treatment options for migraines have expanded significantly over the last 3 decades and new treatments are on the horizon. A relatively new class of medications target CGRP (calcitonin gene-related peptide), which is a direct cause of migraines. Anti-CGRP treatments include monthly injections to help prevent migraines. They also include oral options for migraine prevention or quick relief during an attack. Dr. Zatt’s training makes him uniquely qualified to discuss these options with you to see if they are right for you.

New treatment options for migraines and other headache disorders are being explored every day. Dr. Zatt is always keeping tabs on emerging treatments as they progress through clinical trials. We’re always willing to discuss new headache treatment with you so you can stay up to date on the latest research.

In most cases, no referral is required. If your insurance plan requires one, our office can help you confirm what’s needed before your visit.

A valid photo ID, your insurance card, a list of current medications, any prior imaging or headache-related records, and a headache diary or timeline of your symptoms if you have one. See our Patient Resources page for the full checklist.
